Pro-Ceed to exceed Kia's expectations
Kia, anxious not to let sister company Hyundai steal all the accolades at the Geneva Motor Show with its new i30 hatchback, is showing off its new Pro-Ceed concept car, based, as if you needed to ask, on the recently-launched Ceed hatchback.
The Pro-Ceed concept is significant for two reasons. First, it's the first indication we have that Kia is getting serious about niche models and even sports cars. Second, it's designed by Peter Schreyer, the man responsible for the styling revolution at Audi a decade ago that cemented the German firm's reputation as an absolute design leader. Schreyer is now Chief Design Officer for Kia, and the Pro-Ceed is his first public work for the Korean company.
Thankfully, like us here at Drive, Schreyer isn't too keen on folding metal hard tops, and decided to create the Pro-Ceed with a fabric roof. “I’m convinced that the fabric roof will have a renaissance. We’ve all lived with the romantic idea of open-air driving for a long time and for me, the fabric roof is the quintessential element of a truly rewarding cabrio.”
Officially, for now, the Pro-Ceed is a concept car, but it look production ready and frankly, we can't imagine the bullish and ambitious Kia leaving a car a good-looking as this languishing on a shelf. Can you?
